Disneyland Resort Theme Park Ticket FAQs

How many theme parks are there at Disneyland Resort California?

There are two theme parks –
Disneyland California and Disney California Adventure – that are located in
Disneyland Resort California, along with three on site hotels and Downtown
Disney (the shopping and food district located between the entrances to the two
parks).

What is the difference between Disneyland and Disney California Adventure Park?

Disneyland is the more “classic”
Disney park, that opened in 1955 where Walt Disney himself brought the magic of
Disney to life. This is the park where you will see the more traditional
aspects of Disneyland, including the iconic Sleeping Beauty Castle at the end
of Main Street USA. Disneyland is made up of 9 different themed lands,
including Fantasyland, Adventureland, Tomorrowland, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge
and more! You will experience classic Disney attractions including Space
Mountain, the Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean, to
name a few. Disneyland offers meet and greet opportunities with beloved
characters including Cinderella, Tinkerbelle, Winnie the Pooh and of course
Mickey Mouse himself!

Disney California Adventure (DCA)
is the second park at Disneyland Resort. It opened in 2001 and features some of
the more “modern” Disney films and attractions. DCA is where you find the some
of the more thrilling rides, including the Incredicoaster and Guardians of the
Galaxy: Mission Breakout. DCA is home to 8 themed lands, including Radiator
Springs, Avengers Campus, Pixar Pier, and more. DCA is where guests will be
able to meet characters from popular modern Disney franchises such as Cars, The
Incredibles, Inside Out and Marvel.

What is a park hopper ticket?

A Park Hopper Ticket allows
Guests to visit more than one park per day. Guests must make a theme park
reservation for the first park they plan to visit. After entering that first
park, Guests will be able to visit the next park starting at 11:00 AM subject
to availability/capacity and go between the parks until each park's regularly
scheduled closure.

How many days should I allow for Disneyland?

This is going to be a personal
choice for each guest travelling to Disneyland as there are a lot of factors to
consider that will ultimately make the decision

For returning guests, solo
travellers or adults without children, it is possible to hit all the highlights
in 2-3 days, so long as you are prepared for early mornings, long days and late
nights.

For families travelling with
young children, first time visitors or guests who are looking for a more
relaxed experience, we would encourage spending between 4-6 days to allow for some
shorter days and some breaks throughout the day. We would even suggest looking
at your itinerary to see if you can fit in a rest day midway through your
Disney vacation to keep everyone fresh and happy (particularly beneficial to arrange
following a late night viewing of Fantasmic and the Disneyland fireworks)

What is a park reservation? Do I need one and does it cost extra?

To enter a Disneyland California
Theme Park, both a valid Disneyland California Ticket AND a date-specific theme
park reservation are needed. Your park reservation can be made online or in the
Disneyland app. You will simply need to select which park (Disneyland or DCA)
you will be starting your day at. Park reservations are free to all guests with
a valid ticket but are required for entry.

We encourage guests to make
reservations as soon as they become available for your trip (up to 180 days in
advance). You may change your selection subject to availability up until the
day before your visit. Guests who have purchased the Park Hopper ticket MUST
enter the park they have made their reservation for before hopping from 11am
onward to their second park. Although capacity has increased, Disneyland does
still book out on occasion - particularly on long weekends, on holidays and on
special theme days (such as May 4th/Star Wars Day). If capacity has
been reached on the day of your visit then you will not be able to enter a park
unless youalready have a reservation.

What is Genie+/Lightning Lane Multi Pass?

The Lightning Lane Multi Pass
allow guests to bypass the standby queue (which is the normal queue, included
for free with your park ticket) and join a sperate queue (the Lightning Lane)
for select attraction and entertainment experiences at a shorter wait time.
This feature was previously known as Genie+, however the name was changed on
July 24th 2024.

Lightning Lane Multi Passes can
be purchased in advance at the same time as purchasing your park tickets,
however for advance purchases you must buy this service for all days of your
theme park ticket. You may also purchase this on the day of your visit once you
have entered the park (subject to availability) via the Disneyland App, in
which case you will only need to pay for that one day.

Lightning Lane Multi Pass begins
at $30USD per person per day. If you pre-purchase then the price will remain
fixed, however on the day purchases may be impacted by surge pricing.

You may book Lightning Lane
reservations via the Disneyland app, one at a time for the next available
return time.

This feature also gives guests free
Digital Disney PhotoPass downloads for the day of the visit, so if you are
going for a special occasion and want to have lots of “free” PhotoPass
pictures, then it may be cost efficient for one member of the group to purchase
the Multi Pass for the day just for this included benefit.

Lightning Lane Single Passes
are also available for select attractions, however these cannot be purchased in
advance, and must be purchased through the app one you have entered the park. They
are limited to a maximum two per person, per day, and can only be booked once
per person, per day for each individual attraction. Lightning Lane Single Pass
is an additional paid feature and are available for Rise of the Resistance and
Radiator Spring Racers for approximately $15-$25USD per person, per ride.
